Our story

Western Nova Scotia's Finest Furniture and Appliance Store

The story of Rogers Countrywide and that of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia are intimately linked. It begins in the mid 19th century (ca. 1856) and, like so much of Canadian history, the railroad is a common thread in the narrative, for the site of the original furniture establishment was sold to the railroad in order to lay track across Main Street. Instead of moving, the owner, Mr. Allen, decided to sell the business to the Sweeney family who built a new store near the current location. During two generations of Sweeney ownership, the store was moved to its present location, was completely destroyed by fire and rapidly rebuilt. Then, in 1919, the business was sold to a group of Yarmouth business men including the Rogers family grandfather, G.O. Rogers.

Business boomed during the “Roaring Twenties”, but even during the difficult depression years of the 1930’s, the store recorded profits. In 1949, G.O.’s son, Frank Rogers, joined the firm followed by his sons in the 1980's. In the fall of 1989, a major renovation and expansion was completed that has made Rogers Furniture one of the largest furniture stores in the Maritimes. With over 26,000 sq. ft. of showroom space, Rogers Furniture is without peer for the quality of its product selection, décor and service.
