This unique retailing operation was developed with clear and progressive business goals in mind. Mega Group Inc. founders knew that in order to counter competition from chains, department stores and large power retailers moving into their markets, they had to join forces to maintain competitive pricing and consumer benefits.

Their strategy was to forge a democratic, non-profit organization which would pass all economic acquisition benefits along to participating Mega Group Inc. Members. They also appreciated the value of open discussion and idea sharing among Members to boost sales and solving common concerns.

With these goals, Mega Group Inc.'s five Members began the process of turning their vision into a reality, contacting prospective members and planning organization and operating procedures. Together they would buy goods, exchange advertising, financial, operating and merchandising ideas on a no-holds-barred basis.

One year later, Mega Group Inc. Stores Ltd. opened its corporate Central Office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. From here, they began to coordinate group activities, building an administration network to help independent retailers survive, grow and profit - through volume purchasing, marketing support and a variety of related programs - and providing a common focus for manufacturers.

Today, with increasing challenges to independent furniture, consumer electronics and appliance retailers from large volume national chains, more and more independents are feeling pressure to keep pace while searching for new sources of supply and distribution.
